Wonderful Images
Graham and Scott together have created a very eye-catching look at water in many of its forms. The concrete poems only add to the meaning. It is very well done.

This would be a perfect book to introduce concrete poetry in a classroom environment.

Your Taste Buds Will Love This Book
The recipes in this books are creative but simple. I recently took it along on a four day fishing trip to Lake Fontana where I cooked a "Brandy-Peppercorn" venison steak that everyone said was the best venison they had ever eaten! This is a book no outdoor sportsman should be without.

A fantastic collection of the best wild game recipes.
I recently received a copy of The Sporting Chef's Favorite WildGame Recipes and it is a great collection of recipes for all types ofwild game. Published by Arrowhead Classics, Inc., Leysath's book brings a new flavor to wild game. I have personally met Scott and can attest to the great taste his recipes bring to wild game. This is a "must buy" for anyone who hunts or just likes to eat wild game. We can enjoy the healthy benefits of wild game (lower in fat and free of hormones, etc) and also enjoy the flavor. Check it out!

This book is the most deeply thoughtful book on the subject.
This is one of the most significant books on the nature of consciousness scince the appearence of William James's "Principles of Sychology" and Erwin Schroedinger's "Mind and Matter". Combining the best of classical knowledge of the mind, with the insights of contemporary Nonlinear Science, this book provides a provides a perspective from which matieralism and dualism are no longer contradictory views. For anyone who is in anyway at all interesed in consciousness or any related subjects, this book is an absolute must! Star Wars Clone Wars: The Defense of Kamino
Published in Paperback by Dark Horse Comics (June, 2003)
Authors: John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, Haden Blackman, and Scott Allie
Average review score:

5 Stories providing key details about the Clone Wars.
This is a review of Dark horse TPB Star wars Clone Wars Volume 1 The Defense of Kamino (CW-DOK) and other tales. It collects Republic series 49 and 50 plus Jedi Mace Windu. It takes place 1 TO 3 months after the battle of Geonosis but before the excellent novel SHATTERPOINT, year -21 BNH on the timeline.

It was amazing to read this comic jus a couple days after finishing Shatterpoint. The coordination between Dark horse and Del Rey is a thrilling thing. After the hideous results of NJO the whole Expanded universe prequel effort is spine chillingly amazing!

Story one Sacrific. This story takes place 1 month after the battle of Geonosis and is another glorious effort from the team of Ostrander and Duursema. This story includes Zenex, who is of the same race as Xizor, future head of black sun. We also see Aalya Secura as a jedi after her trials and tribulations earlier and her master Quinlan Vos, a favorite of my son and I. The story and artwork are superior. The decision as to coloring is puzzling, as it seems to mute and darken the whole visual effect. And why color the light sabers in predominant white with only a hue of color around the energy blade? Dooku and our buddy Sidious are of course in this story.

Story 2 The Defense of Kamino is broken up into 3 tales.

Tales A. Brothers in Arms. Good story with impressive artwork and awesome coloring. The coloring is still done as if in a dark atmosphere, but the inker Parsons was created a richer for satisfying visual look than we saw in story one. The pencil work by Duursema is awesome as usual, and the drawings of Ben and Anakin are perfect.

Tale B Jango's Legacy is very good, but I have one negative comment. Duursema must not have given Thompson the pictures of what Ben and Anakin look like because he didn't do a very good job. Stephen, you got to be more careful when drawing someone that everyone knows. Good job otherwise.

Tales C. No End in Sight. This has an awesome space battle that is a visual marvel on all levels.

Story 3. Schism. Features Windu and is another masterful job by Ostrander - Duursema and Parsons.

ONE OF MY PET PEEVES HAS BEEN THE BINDING PROBLEMS WITH THE COMICS MADE IN CHINA. THIS ONE HAS SEEN SOME ABUSE ALREADY AND IT IS NOT FALLING APART IN MY HANDS.

This story here ties into the movies and other comic so well and, with only minor complaints, is a visual marvel, is it OK to mention the enemy?, that I am awarding this comic SOMETHING I RARELY DO... 5 STARS.

Excellent artwork, good stories, definitely worth getting
I highly recommend this trade paperback collection. It contains some of the best Star Wars comics to come out in a long time.

As mentioned above, it contains Star Wars: Republic #49 and #50 (a double issue), as well as Jedi: Mace Windu (which was also a double issue). These were the first Clone Wars comics that Dark Horse published.

The artwork is really outstanding. Star Wars fans are really in for a treat thanks to Jan Duuresma, an exceptional artist who draws the characters really well, and also delivers exciting, dynamic action sequences. The coloring is also very good in these issues.

The stories are set after Attack of the Clones, which is great because we are seeing the Clone Wars unfold in real time. The consequences of the Battle of Geonosis are being seen throughout the galaxy. As Count Dooku said, "This battle is far from over. This is just the beginning."

The characters are handled well. Anakin and Obi-Wan make appearances, and Mace Windu gets the spotlight as he tries to deal with Jedi Knights who have had it with the Republic. In addition, the new female Dark Jedi, Asajj Ventress, appears in this collection. She will be appearing in the upcoming Clone Wars cartoon. You also get to see the first appearance of the ARC troopers, a new version of the clones.

This is a great beginning to the Clone Wars and I look forward to future installments.

Stuck in the Seventies
Published in Paperback by Bonus Books (December, 1995)
Authors: Scott Matthews, Jay Kerness, Tamara Nikuradse, Jay Steele, and Greg White
Average review score:

A clever, witty retrospective
This is a wonderful little retrospective, with some very creative and funny observations. If you are anywhere between 25 and 45, the memories will come flooding back (and if you're like me, some embarrassment, too). It is also peppered with some great cartoon illustrations, a seventies quiz ("The 70's SATs") and a music anthology. Well worth it!

A hilarious book for everyone who lived through the 70's!
This book really had my friends and me rolling on the floor with laughter! What a great collection of memories of this stupid decade-- the people, the fads, the TV shows and music. It's great for parties or just to have lying on your coffee table-- but watch out, your friends will try to steal it (unless they're really groovy). Highly recommended!!!

The Student Bible Atlas
Published in Paperback by Augsburg Fortress Publishers (April, 1996)
Authors: Tim Dowley and Richard Scott
Average review score:

The Student Bible Atlas
I have been looking for just this kind of atlas for my 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class. The main thing I like about it is that it uses the same map of Israel and shows it at the various periods. Most atlases and Sunday School curricula show various maps instead of one map that changes over time. I liked the comparison maps of the empires. The comments and illustrations with each map are also useful.

Excellent Companion to Bible for Both Child and Adult!
This is definitely a worthy purchase if you have a child and as well if you (admit it) still get mixed up a bit with Middle East geography, especially when it comes to what an area was called years ago and what its present-day name is. When you read a passage to your child, show him with this each time where that scripture was taking place at that time period (the atlas shows name changes and political boundaries in different time segments). You both will have a much better understanding of what was taking place where and when.

Super Searchers in the News : The Online Secrets of Journalists and News Researchers
Published in Paperback by Cyberage Books (November, 2000)
Authors: Paula J. Hane, Reva Basch, Scott Simon, and Scott Simon
Average review score:

Valuable insights from news researchers
What a lovely surprise this book turned out to be!

Those of us who work in news research might fancy we know the implications of Internet research in our newsrooms, but absorbing the ideas of "the best in the business" helps to fill out the larger picture. Super Searchers in the News is a quick read and contains a few useful gems. The surprise was a higher degree of insight than you might expect from the format.

The interview format is not one I usually find very useful but Paula Hane got a lot from her subjects. Her writing is good and she lets the voice of her subjects be heard. There is an interesting mix of professional news researchers and journalists each with a point of view and something valuable to say.

There are plenty of ideas in this book that range far outside news research:

Nora Paul-"...there is a new job for the news researcher and an evaluator and qualifier of sources", "...a coordinator of the group effort to make collective intelligence available to everyone".

C.B. Hayden "The Intranet is the main focus of our activity. On-demand research is still our biggest product".

The diminishing reliance on commercial vendors and the implications that has in news libraries and newsrooms.

The growing training and teaching aspects of news researchers.

This book shaped my thinking about the kind of library I run and the tools and techniques I use to manage our research service. As a result we are more focused on the Intranet as a research platform and the growing importance of news researchers.

I highly recommend this book.

Good for "News Junkies"
This book is worthwhile and inspirational reading for the news research pros and for the "news junkies" of the world. Paula Hane has done an impressive job interviewing stellar news researchers and investigative journalists. These two professional groups (news librarians and reporters) may not share identical strategies or resources, but their common goal is shared: to get the information first and to get it right. The experiences offered in this book are worth telling and retelling. I enthusiastically recommend "Super Searchers in the News" for the perfectionistic research pros and for those who are simply fascinated with the endless challenge of tracking down data on deadline. J-School students as well as library/information science students could profit from these true life stories. It should be required reading.

Jurassic Park Adventures One Book
Jurassic Park Adventures One Book Review

Jurassic Park Adventures One is a book about a kid named Eric Kirby who has to get to a test safe house to escape dinosaurs on an island. When he tries to get out of the test house, he can't. Some people have to save him. Their plane crashes in the rescue. If you like dinosaurs, this is the book for you. The stars of the book are Spinosaurus, T- Rex & Raptor. Eric makes friends with an Iguanadon & names it Iggy. Eric is a hero. He goes out to save a man, but does not know who he is.

By James

A thrilling book inspired by the upcoming movie.
All thirteen-year-old Eric Kirby wanted was a chance to get to see real, live dinosaurs up close. So when his mom's boyfriend, Ben, offered him the opportunity, he jumped at the chance. Eric and Ben will get to parasail over the Jurassic Park Island, observing the dinosaurs from a safe distance. But something goes very wrong, and the two fall from the sky onto the island. Only Eric survives the fall, and he is trapped in a hostile prehistoric environment where he is the prey. It will take all of his wits and courage to stay alive until help arrives - but how can one kid survive among the deadliest predators ever to walk the earth? This was a thrilling story, not only for fans of the movies, but for readers who like adventure stories. The book ended with a cliffhanger that will lead into the new Jurassic Park movie, so now I have to wait until the movie comes out to find out what happens to Eric, which won't be for a whole month, or read the novelization. Still, this was an exciting, although short, book.
